Ai Xuan. Chinese Poetry On Canvas.

There’s not exactly a lot of info to be found on Ai Xuan. He was born in 1947. He now lives and works in Beijing where he teaches at the Beijing Painting Institute.

But then again, it really isn’t all that important. His works speak for themselves. It’s pure poetry on canvas. The solitude or despair or whatever it may be, is always present in his works. It would be very hard to call it a political statement or critisism on the society he lives in, as subtle as it is, but the portrayed characters definitely do not look like happy campers in my eyes.
